Boozhoo (Hello), my name is Deanna Drift (DeDe), I started as the American Indian Coordinator for the District in early December 2024.  I grew up on the Bois Forte Reservation in northern MN, attending Orr High School. I graduated from Hibbing Community College, later graduating from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, receiving both my bachelor’s and master’s degree there. My thesis and the research I conducted was focused on American Indian Language Revitalization.

Prior to joining the district, I worked primarily in Career Counseling, both on the Iron Range and in Duluth, MN, assisting families on their journey to self-sufficiency.

I enjoy spending time with family, attending pow-wows, hunting, concerts, and I especially enjoy watching my grandchildren navigate life as they learn and grow with each passing day.

I am passionate about education, especially helping others to uplift our youth to be the best version of themselves, while honoring diverse backgrounds of all students. I look forward to working with our District, American Indian students, and their families.
